Jesse had an exceedingly hard time keeping a job. Indeed, due to her indolence and lack of motivation, she was out of work far more frequently than she was gainfully employed. And when she did find a job, she had a particularly difficult time getting to work on time, she frequently received less than great performance reviews, and she called off sick so frequently that she commonly got fired a few weeks after she started working. To no one’s surprise, one of the effects of Jesse’s irresponsible employment history was the fact that she was almost totally broke most of the time.
In spite of Jesse’s less than passing employment record and financial mismanagement, on the other hand, somehow, someway she made it her business to drink in a hazardous and abusive manner almost everyday. Not surprisingly, her hazardous drinking also resulted in marital issues and affairs.
Because of her irresponsible and hazardous drinking, it came as no big shock when Jesse got a fifth DWI. When she went before the court, the judge stated to Jesse that her alcohol-related conduct was unacceptable and, consequently, he was going to sentence Jesse to spend six months in the municipal jail.
Time While Locked Up In Jail To Think About The Injurious Consequences of Hazardous and Abusive Drinking
During her time while locked up in jail, Jesse was required to learn more about alcohol facts, about the negative outcomes of irresponsible and abusive drinking, and she was required to get alcohol counseling. The judge emphasized the fact that unless Jesse gets professional alcohol counseling and learns how to live a life of sobriety, she will quite possibly be spending more than a short amount of time in the city jail.
Jesse articulated that she grasped what the judge was declaring but she still claimed that placement in the county jail was not the proper response. The magistrate saw things from an entirely different vantage point and stated that it was his professional responsibility to keep people off the streets who drive under the influence and who receive a DWI. To give credibility to this statement, the judge listed some honored, thoroughly researched alcohol statistics that emphasized some of the distressing consequences that are related to thoughtless drinking.
Although Jesse understood that she drank in an irresponsible and excessive manner, she never thought that she was an individual who was addicted to alcohol. So it was quite a surprise when Jesse began experiencing symptoms of alcohol withdrawal approximately seven hours after after getting locked up in the city jail.
To treat her alcohol withdrawals in a safe and sound manner, Jesse was taken to a drug and alcohol treatment center for alcohol detox and then returned to the city jail. While locked up in the city jail Jesse undertook a mental health examination for her depression and undertook alcohol counseling but due to the fact that she received this treatment as something that was imposed upon her, she neglected to take ownership of her irresponsible and abusive drinking.
When her time in the county jail was completed, the judge without reservation announced to Jesse that she would be under rigorous scrutiny and would be required to take random alcohol tests.
Jessie’s Abusive and Excessive Drinking Prevents Her From Living in an Adult Manner
After hearing how Jesse did not take ownership of her drinking problem and how she halfheartedly followed the treatment procedures while in the city jail, the judge knew that it was only a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about her hazardous and irresponsible drinking behavior. As the magistrate reflected on Jesse’s circumstance, he couldn’t help but think about how some people never ”get it” and discover how to live in an accountable and effective manner.
